Volunteering at SAVE
Guided by dedicated staff, volunteers act in partnership to improve animals' lives in direct and impactful ways — forming a vital network of animal welfare advocates.
Make a Real Difference
Volunteers are the heartbeat of SAVE. Whether you're walking dogs, socializing cats, reading to shelter animals, or supporting events — your time has a direct and meaningful impact on every animal in our care.
We ask that volunteers commit to a minimum of 8 hours per month, helping us maintain consistent relationships with the animals and provide reliable care.

📚 Paws for Reading
The Paws for Reading program invites students ages 8 to 15 to come read aloud to shelter animals — helping socialize our cats and dogs, making them more adaptable and adoptable.
Sessions are held every Thursday from 4:00 – 5:00pm. Older participants may serve as mentors, guiding younger readers and developing leadership skills along the way.
It's a win-win: kids practice reading and build empathy while the animals get critical socialization and gentle human interaction.

Become a Foster
Foster families provide a critical bridge between the shelter and a forever home — giving animals the individualized care and love they need to thrive.
As a SAVE foster, you'll provide a temporary home for an animal who needs extra time, space, or socialization. You'll receive all necessary supplies and full support from our team.
Fostering is especially vital for:
- Nursing mothers and young kittens or puppies
- Animals recovering from illness or surgery
- Animals who need a calm home environment to come out of their shell
- Pets who are stressed in the shelter environment
