About SAVE, A Friend to Homeless Animals
Over 80 years of dedicated service to the homeless animals of the Princeton, NJ area and beyond.
Our Story
SAVE, A Friend to Homeless Animals was founded in 1941 by Dr. Cornelia Jaynes — a visionary who believed every homeless animal deserved safety, care, and a loving family.
For over 80 years, SAVE has been a cornerstone of animal welfare in the greater Princeton area. We are an independent 501(c)(3) non-profit, entirely reliant on the generosity of our community.
In 2024, SAVE was recognized as a No-Kill shelter by Best Friends Animal Society — a milestone that reflects the tireless work of our staff, volunteers, fosters, and donors.
Today SAVE cares for approximately 100 animals at any given time — providing rescue, shelter, veterinary care, rehabilitation, fostering, and adoption services.
Our Services
SAVE provides a full spectrum of care for homeless companion animals in our community.
Veterinary Care
Every animal receives a full veterinary exam, vaccinations, spay/neuter, and disease testing upon intake.
Foster Care
Our foster program provides temporary loving homes for animals who need extra time and attention before adoption.
Adoption Services
We carefully match animals with the right families to ensure lasting, happy placements for both pet and adopter.
Spay & Neuter
All animals are spayed or neutered before leaving our care, reducing pet overpopulation in our community.
Rescue
We rescue homeless, abandoned, and surrendered animals, giving them a safe place to recover and find new hope.
Rehabilitation
Animals who need extra time and care receive behavioral and medical rehabilitation to help them thrive.
